Library visits are limited to one hour; no appointment necessary. Properly fitting masks are required.

Internet Public Access Policy

1 Access will be granted for a 30 minute block of time, which can be extended if no one is waiting to use the computer.  All users must sign in with their full name and note their start time.

2 The library cannot provide email accounts, but free web based email accounts are allowed.

3 Information, images, text or other data available on the Internet may not be downloaded from the Internet using library computers.  All rules of copyright and personal property must be honored. Information in the form of text, graphics, music, video, software or other media that is retrieved or utilized electronically should be considered constitutionally protected.

4 The Internet is an unregulated medium.  It enables access to some material that may be offensive, disturbing and/or illegal, as well as materials that are personally, professionally and culturally enriching to individuals of all ages.  Therefore, the library staff is not responsible for Internet information selected and accessed by anyone less than 18 years old.  Library staff does not monitor or supervise Internet access except for the length of time used.

5 Computers are located in public areas where patrons of all ages and sensibilities can easily view the screens.  Display or transmission of sexually explicit graphics or materials that are obscene, pornographic or harmful to minors is strictly prohibited at the Library.  Staff reserves the right to request a patron exit a website if the staff member judges the material to be inappropriate for public viewing.  Child pornography is illegal and will immediately result in police intervention.  The Borough of Carlstadt and the William E. Dermody Free Public Library prohibits acts of harassment, sexual or other forms, against Library patrons and staff as per Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

6 Food and drink should not be consumed in computer areas.

7 Patrons will be responsible for any damage done to the library’s computers.

8 Wireless Internet access is available throughout the library.  The wireless network is used at your own risk.  Library staff does not provide support for connecting to the network.  The Library is not responsible for any damage done to hardware or software configurations.  The Internet policy for accessing library computers also pertains to the use of the Library’s wireless network.

9 The Library reserves the right to terminate the session, evict the patron, suspend or terminate the library privileges of anyone who fails to follow the rules for the use of the library computers or wireless network.

10 Printing – $.10 a page.
